1 In that day you will say, “I will give thanks to you, the LORD; for though you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you comfort me.
2 Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD, the LORD, is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation.”
3 Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.
4 In that day you will say, “Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name! Declare his doings among the peoples! Proclaim that his name is exalted!
5 Sing to the LORD, for he has done excellent things! Let this be known in all the earth!
6 Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion, for the Holy One of Israel is great among you!”
Context for study
The declaration of trust belongs to a song of thanksgiving that begins with anger turned away and comfort received. Salvation appears twice in verse 2 and again in the image of drawing water in verse 3. The following verses turn toward calling on God, declaring his deeds, and singing. This movement places confidence within a response of gratitude and proclamation, rather than leaving it as an isolated command to suppress every feeling of fear.
A question to explore
How does the repeated word “salvation” connect the declaration in verse 2 with the image in verse 3 and the thanksgiving that follows?
